Mapping Mean Velocity Field over Bed Forms Using Simplified Empirical-Moment Concept Approach

چکیده
The log-wake law was successful in mapping velocity fields for uniform flow over flat surfaces, even cases of wake effects (velocity dips, wall effects, and secondary currents). However, natural riverbeds with undulations bedforms challenge these models. This study introduces a moment-based empirical method rough estimation the stationary 2D bedforms. It proposes three polynomial profile templates (first, fifth, eighth orders) coefficients deduced analytically while taking into account an array conditions assumptions, including slip at bed, mass moment momentum conservations, imposing inviscid potential near water surface, incorporation near-bed shear stress utilizing Chezy formula. Remarkably, polynomials are primarily reliant on two crucial scales, depth-averaged (uo) moment-derived integral (u1), along dimensionless reattachment coefficient (Kr). Validation proposed approach comes from ten lab experiments, spanning Froude numbers 0.1 to 0.32, offering data validate obtained profiles establish relationship spatial variation normalized u1 reveals that assumption boundary condition bed generally enhances accuracy predicted profiles. eighth-order excels within eddy zone close points, fifth-order performs better downstream, approaching crest. Importantly, efficacy this extends beyond encompass airflow scenarios, such as negative step. research findings highlight linear velocity, employed Vertically Averaged Moment models (VAM), exhibits approximately 70% less mismatch compared constant (VA) Moreover, utilization results substantial improvements, reducing by 86% 90%, respectively, comparison VA insights gained hold significant implications advancing vertically averaged models, enabling generation approximate yet more realistic scenarios involving These directly impact applications related sediment transport mixing phenomena.

Mean-Field Variational Data Assimilation Using Moment Closures
The typical optimal smoothing/filtering exercise of evolving statistics conditioned on observations demands the estimate of the first few moments and it is thus natural to explore whether moment closure ideas can deliver these, especially if the outcome is a far more efficient assimilation scheme. Significant increases in efficiency are especially welcomed in optimal estimation strategies that ...
متن کاملThe influence of migrating bed forms on the velocity-intermittency structure of turbulent flow over a gravel bed
[1] Modeling turbulent flows at high Reynolds number requires solving simplified variants of the Navier-Stokes equations. The methods used to close the resulting Reynolds-averaged, or eddy simulation equations usually follow classical theory and, at small enough scales, postulate universal scaling for turbulence that is independent of the velocity itself. This may not be the best way to concept...
متن کاملVelocity profiles of turbidity currents flowing over a flat bed
Turbidity currents are the main source of suspended sediment transport in reservoirs and thus one of the main causes of sedimentation. One of the techniques used to avoid reservoir sedimentation is through venting of turbidity currents. In the framework of a research work on venting, velocity measurements of turbidity currents flowing on a flat bed are carried out using Ultrasonic Velocity Prof...

Particle Swarm Optimization, a recently more popular optimizer utilizes the swarm behavior in searching for an optimum. The classical/standard PSO (SPSO) algorithm is normally used for unconstrained optimization tasks. The Directional Over-Current Relay (DOCR) Coordination problem is a highly constrained optimization problem, therefore the SPSO in its original form cannot be used to solve it. T...
متن کاملTime-odd triaxial relativistic mean field approach for nuclear magnetic moment
The time-odd triaxial relativistic mean field approach is developed and applied to the investigation of the ground-state properties of light odd-mass nuclei near the double-closed shells. The nuclear magnetic moments including the isoscalar and isovector ones are calculated and good agreement with Schmidt values is obtained. Taking F as an example, the splitting of the single particle levels ( ...
